What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy which incorporates art materials and creative interventions to encourage self-expression and reflection in a safe therapeutic relationship.
Sometimes words aren’t enough and art therapy can offer alternative ways to explore and express our feelings. The main goal of art therapy is to improve mental health and maintain emotional well-being.
No prior experience with art is necessary, the focus is on expression through the making and not the final product. I aim to enable clients to explore and express themselves authentically in a non-judgemental and supportive environment.
How does it work?
A typical art therapy session is usually between 50-55 minutes in duration, and can offer a safe and confidential space to gently explore feelings, personal challenges and memories which may be affecting you in your everyday life. Individual therapeutic sessions are offered to children, adolescents and adults. Art work is not judged or interpreted by the therapist and is retained for the duration of therapy.
